Born in Lynn, Massachusetts, Richard Svenson got his start in skating at the North Shore Skating Club. In 1970 and 1971, he won medals in the juvenile boys events at the Silver Blades Skating Club Of Cohasset's Open Free Skating Championships and Providence Figure Skating Club Open Free Style Competition. In 1973, he competed in the novice men's event at the New England Championships in Weymouth. He later studied dance and toured with the Ice Capades. He passed away on September 8, 1994 at the age of forty-one.

Richard's obituary from "The Boston Globe": "A memorial service will be held today for Richard E. Svenson of Los Angeles, Calif., a former figure skater for the Ice Capades and former Lynn resident. He died Thursday in the Country Villa South Nursing Home in Los Angeles at age 41. Born in Lynn, Mr. Svenson graduated from Lynn Classical High School and Salem State College. A former member of the North Shore Skating Club, he studied dance for many years before joining the Ice Capades. He leaves his parents, Robert H. and Deloris (Turner) Svenson of Billerica, two brothers, Robert H. Jr. of Billerica and Randall of Lynn; and a sister, Cheryl of Billerica."
