Clarence Edward Rost
July 21, 1937-May 27, 1988
Born in England, Larry Rost got his start in figure skating at the Ice Club of Greater Winnipeg in Manitoba. He made his competitive debut in 1952 at the Western Canadian Championships in Vancouver, as part of the silver-medal winning Winnipeg Four. In 1955, he won the Western Canadian junior pairs title with Jane Sinclair. The following year, Jane and Larry won their first of three silver medals in the junior pairs event at the Canadians in Galt. At the 1957 Canadians, Larry was fourth in the junior men's event. Larry and Jane won the silver medal in the senior pairs event at the 1959 Canadians and represented Canada at that year's North American Championships. Larry went on to tour with Holiday On Ice and teach at the Houston Figure Skating Club in Texas. He passed away on May 27, 1988 at the age of fifty.
Larry's obituary from the "Montrose Voice": "Larry Rost, 50, expired May 27, 1988. Born in London, England, and raised in Winnipeg, Canada, Mr. Rost was employed as Skating Director for Sharpstown Ice Center and recently celebrated his twenty-fifth year as the figure skating pro for the Houston Figure Skating Club. In 1959, he was Canadian Gold Medalist in Figures and Free Style skating and later was a featured soloist with Holiday On Ice for three years. Mr. Rost is survived by father, Clarence Rost, and many dear friends."
