Robert Lawrence Black

Massachusetts born Bobby Black got his start in figure skating at the North Shore Skating Club. He went on to represent The Skating Club of Boston nationally, passing his Gold test and winning the 1964 U.S. novice men's title and the silver medal in the junior men's event at the 1965 U.S. Championships. He went on to study at Tufts University and teach at the Falmouth Ice Arena, North Shore Skating Club and The Skating Club of Boston. He passed away on June 27, 1989 at the age of thirty-nine.
Obituary for Bobby Black from the "Boston Globe": "Robert L. Black, a vice-president of BayBank Boston and former figure skater and coach, died of lymphoma yesterday in his Back Bay home. He was 39. Mr. Black won the National Novice Men's Championship in Cleveland in 1964 and was a professional coach at the Boston Skating Club from 1972 to 1984. He was the general manager of the club in 1983-84. Mr. Black joined the bank in 1984. He graduated from Tufts University in 1971 and earned a master's degree in business administration at Babson College in 1983. He leaves his mother, Dorothy Black of Winter Park, Fla., and two brothers, Charles A. and William H. Black Jr. of Reading."
