William Henry Woehrle

Born in Toledo, Ohio, Bill Woehrle represented both the Bowling Green and Buffalo Figure Skating Clubs in competition in the seventies. He competed at the U.S. Championships from 1973 to 1975, finishing in the top ten in the junior men's event all three times. As a professional, he toured with John Curry and represented the United States in the World Professional Championships in Jaca, Spain. He was also the co-Artistic Director of the Ice Theatre Of New York with Moira North for a time. He passed away on November 4, 1995 at the age of forty-one.
Bill's obituary from "Skating" magazine: "William Woehrle, former competitive skater, died on Nov. 4, 1995 at the age of 41. Woehrle won novice pairs with partner Elizabeth Montesano at the 1972 North Atlantic Regional Championships. He won the junior men's event at the 1975 New England Regional Championships, placed third at the 1975 Eastern Sectional Championships and made a third appearance at the U.S. Championships. Woehrle also won many non-qualifying competitions during his competitive career. He later skated professionally in John Curry's Theatre of Skating in London, England, and the Ice Theater of New York; taught in Massachusetts, and danced with the Kansas City Ballet. In 1994, he founded the Ice Ballet Company, Inc., in Columbia, S.C., where he was assisting in the direction of the 1995 Christmas production at the time of his death. Woehrle is survived by his parents, brother and sister-in-law."
