Historical Results From The Nations Cup

The Nations Cup's roots trace back to the autumn of 1986, when a team competition called the Fuji Film Trophy was first held in West Germany. The event was considered quite revolutionary at the time as it offered something that other fall internationals didn't at the time - a cash award equivalent to $10,500 CDN. Due to the strict rules surrounding amateurism at the time, the money was put into a trust fund that skaters could access for training and living expenses only until their amateur career ended. The Fuji Film Trophy evolved into the Nation's Cup, which became a Grand Prix event in 1995, when the ISU first introduced the Champions Series. It was later renamed twice, after its title sponsors Sparkassen (a savings bank) and Bofrost (a frozen food company). The competition was dropped from the Grand Prix in 2002 but was held twice more with an innovative format - an abbreviated ice dance competition that excluded the compulsory dance and a jump competition instead a short program for singles and pairs. Full results from the competition are something that haven't been easily accessible in years past. Through back issues of "Skating" and "American Skating World" magazine, newspaper archives, programmes and protocols, results from most years are now available here.
